Answer:
Different Activities Captivating Students' Interest
Nowadays, students are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities, with plenty of different interests available to them. However, the most popular activity for students between 13 and 15 years of age is music. According to the survey conducted in over twenty schools in New Delhi, as many as 60 students were interested in music, while only about 26 students marked dance as their choice. Cricket and theatre were the next most loved choices, with cricket ahead by nearly 5 students. About 32 students liked art. The notable thing in this survey is that the craze for learning music is rapidly increasing among budding teens, which is a great sign of progress in honing natural talent.
Writing Tips:
1. Rank the activities from most to least popular using the numbers.
2. End with an inference about what the trend shows.
Consumers who took to e-commerce during the pandemic year are continuing to use them, a LocalCircles survey shows.(CBSE 2024)
Answer:
The Proliferation of E-commerce in India
The chart illustrates several key trends in e-commerce shopping, particularly highlighting the significant increase in online shopping during the pandemic year. According to a survey conducted by LocalCircles, when asked about their most preferred mode of shopping, around 49 percent of people chose e-commerce websites and apps. The main reason behind this might be additional discounts and hassle-free delivery. On the other hand, 31 percent of people prefer malls, markets and local retailers, while just 18 percent prefer local retailers that offer home delivery. As many as 69 percent of buyers purchased groceries and essentials online; one primary factor is convenience. Online shopping allows individuals to avoid crowded stores and long checkout lines, saving time and effort. Only 32 percent of people bought high-value items online. This may be because of the risk of damage during delivery.
Writing Tips:
1. Cover both parts of the chart: preferred mode and product categories.
2. Offer a reason for each trend (convenience, risk with costly items).
Question 3. Read an excerpt from an article below:
Self-driving cars are designed for travel without a human operator. Instead of a driver, the car will use a combination of sensors, cameras, radar, and artificial intelligence to travel between destinations. They are going to revolutionise the transport industry by enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of vehicles. However, this change is happening too rapidly, and self-driving cars pose more problems than solutions. There are several concerns with regard to the safety of such vehicles, as well as their potential impact on employment.
Write a paragraph in about 120 words analysing the argument surrounding self-driving cars. You can think about what alternative explanations might weaken the given conclusion and include rationale/evidence that would strengthen/counter the given argument.
You may begin like this: I believe self-driving cars offer more solutions than problems/I believe self-driving cars offer more problems than solutions.
You may end like this: For these reasons, I believe that self-driving cars are more helpful than problematic/I believe that self-driving cars are more problematic than helpful. (CBSE Practice Set-1, 2023)
Answer:
Supporting Self-driving Cars
I believe self-driving cars offer more solutions than problems. Since these cars would be using the latest technology and advanced sensors and radars, they would be able to greatly reduce road accidents caused by human error. Additionally, since people would not be actively engaged in driving, they could use their commute time for other activities. Currently, only those who have the experience and skill of driving a car can do so. But with a self-driving car, anyone can have access to a vehicle irrespective of their skill. However, technology does malfunction at times, which is why clear safety protocols and guidelines would need to be put in place before these cars can be on the roads. For these reasons, I believe that self-driving cars are more helpful than problematic.
OR Opposing Self-driving Cars
I believe self-driving cars offer more problems than solutions. While there are potential benefits associated with self-driving vehicles, such as reduced road accidents, there are more significant concerns. One of the main worries is the safety of self-driving cars, as they rely heavily on complex sensors that may fail in certain situations. Another aspect of safety is that, like any electronic device, such a car could be hacked into and tampered with, leading to accidents. Additionally, the widespread adoption of self-driving cars may lead to job losses for millions of professional drivers, causing economic and social challenges. Moreover, the infrastructure required to support self-driving cars, such as advanced road systems, may not be readily available in many regions. For these reasons, I believe that self-driving cars are more problematic than helpful.
Writing Tips:
1. Take one side but acknowledge and answer the strongest opposing point.
2. Give evidence-type reasons: safety, jobs, infrastructure, access.
