💡 Expert Preparation Tips
From our faculty who have guided thousands of Bihar TET and STET candidates to successful qualification
1
Attempt all 150 questions in every paper - no negative marking makes blanks strategically wrong - Both Bihar TET (BTET) and Bihar STET have absolutely no negative marking. A wrong answer costs zero marks; an unattempted question also gives zero marks. But if you guess from 4 options, you have a 25% chance of getting 1 mark. With 150 questions and zero penalty, the mathematically correct strategy is always to attempt every single question. Many candidates leave 15-25 questions blank from uncertainty, costing themselves 3-6 marks that may be the difference between passing and failing (the qualifying threshold is 90/150 for General). After answering questions you know, eliminate the most obviously wrong options and pick from remaining choices for uncertain questions. Never submit a blank.
2
BTET and CTET preparation overlaps 90% - prepare for both simultaneously if targeting central government teaching - Bihar TET (BTET) and the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) test the same five sections in Paper 1 and Paper 2 with nearly identical syllabus. The only difference is the administrative body (BSEB for BTET, CBSE for CTET) and questions relating to state-specific content (Bihar geography, Bihar culture in EVS for BTET). Candidates targeting Bihar government school jobs (BPSC TRE) need BTET or CTET. Those who also want KVS or NVS eligibility need CTET. Prepare for both simultaneously - appear in the next CTET and use the same preparation for BTET. Bihar also accepts CTET for BPSC TRE applications, so a CTET pass gives you eligibility for Bihar state jobs too.
3
Child Development and Pedagogy (30 questions) - invest 25% of preparation time here for maximum ROI - The Child Development and Pedagogy section is 20% of Bihar TET's marks and the most preparation-sensitive section. Unlike Maths or Language sections where performance depends on years of education, Pedagogy is entirely learnable in 3-4 weeks of focused study. Piaget's stages, Vygotsky's ZPD, Bloom's Taxonomy, NCF 2005, NEP 2020, and RTE Act are standard topics that appear in virtually every BTET cycle. Scoring 27-28 out of 30 in Pedagogy versus 18-20 creates a 7-10 mark advantage that directly affects whether you clear the qualifying mark. This section is the single highest-return investment in Bihar TET preparation.
4
Bihar STET Subject section (100 marks out of 150) is the overwhelming merit determinant - master your subject - In Bihar STET, the subject-specific section carries 100 marks = 67% of total. Unlike BTET where all sections are equal (30Q each), STET is heavily weighted toward subject knowledge. A candidate who scores 85/100 in subject and 38/50 in General (total 123) will comfortably qualify. The General section (50 marks: GK, Reasoning, EVS, Maths, Teaching Aptitude) is much easier to prepare for and serves as a buffer, but it cannot compensate for a weak subject section. For STET, 70% of your preparation time should go to your specific subject (Physics/Chemistry/History/Maths etc.) at Class 10-12 Bihar Board and NCERT level.
5
Bihar-specific GK is important for BTET EVS and STET General section - study Bihar separately - Both Bihar TET and Bihar STET include Bihar-specific content that is not covered by generic CTET or UPTET preparation material. BTET Paper 1 EVS includes Bihar rivers (Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Sone, Bagmati), Bihar districts and geography, Bihar festivals (Chhath Puja, Sonepur Mela), and Bihar agriculture. Bihar STET General section includes Bihar history (Nalanda, Vikramshila universities, Maurya Empire capital Pataliputra), Bihar polity (state government structure), and current affairs specific to Bihar. Prepare a dedicated Bihar GK note covering geography, history, culture, government schemes and current events. This preparation gives 5-8 additional marks compared to candidates who only study national-level content.
6
Clear both BTET and Bihar STET at different points - maximise your eligibility range for BPSC TRE - BPSC TRE (Teacher Recruitment Examination) recruits for all class levels - Primary (1-5), Upper Primary (6-8), Secondary (9-10) and Senior Secondary (11-12). Each level requires the corresponding TET/STET certificate. Candidates who hold both BTET Paper 2 (Classes 6-8) and Bihar STET Paper 1 (Classes 9-10) certificates can apply for two different class-level teacher vacancies in BPSC TRE, doubling their opportunities. The preparation for BTET Paper 2 (Class 6-8 content) partially overlaps with Bihar STET Paper 1 (Class 9-10 content). Clear the easier BTET certificates first to build confidence, then target Bihar STET for higher class eligibility. Both certificates are lifetime valid so you can accumulate them over time.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions - Bihar TET and Bihar STET
Most searched questions about BTET, Bihar STET, eligibility and the path to Bihar government teacher jobs
Bihar TET (BTET) and Bihar STET are two separate teacher eligibility tests for different class levels. Bihar TET (BTET) covers Classes 1-5 (Paper 1 - primary teaching) and Classes 6-8 (Paper 2 - upper primary teaching). Bihar STET covers Classes 9-10 (Paper 1 - secondary teaching) and Classes 11-12 (Paper 2 - senior secondary/higher secondary teaching). Both are conducted by BSEB. Which one you need depends on which class level you want to teach: primary and upper primary teachers need BTET (or CTET which is also accepted), secondary and senior secondary teachers need Bihar STET. Both exams have 150 questions, 150 marks, 2.5 hours, no negative marking and 60% qualifying marks for General category. The key structural difference is that BTET is offline (pen-and-paper) while Bihar STET is online (Computer Based Test).
No - clearing Bihar TET or Bihar STET does NOT directly give you a government teaching job. Both are Teacher Eligibility Tests that certify you as eligible to apply for teaching positions - they are not recruitment exams. The actual Bihar government teacher recruitment happens through BPSC TRE (Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Examination), which is a competitive examination conducted separately by BPSC. To get a government teaching job: Step 1 - Clear Bihar TET or STET (depending on class level) to get the eligibility certificate. Step 2 - Wait for BPSC TRE notification. Step 3 - Apply for BPSC TRE using your TET/STET certificate. Step 4 - Clear BPSC TRE competitively (merit-based selection). Step 5 - Get appointment as government teacher in Bihar. BPSC TRE 4.0 has 46,882 vacancies recently announced.
Yes - CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is accepted as equivalent to Bihar TET for applying to BPSC TRE and Bihar government school teaching posts for Classes 1-8. This means if you have cleared CTET Paper 1 or Paper 2, you can apply for BPSC TRE for the corresponding class level without needing a separate Bihar TET certificate. CTET Paper 1 (Classes 1-5) is equivalent to BTET Paper 1. CTET Paper 2 (Classes 6-8) is equivalent to BTET Paper 2. However, CTET is NOT accepted as equivalent to Bihar STET for Classes 9-12 secondary teaching posts - those require specifically the Bihar STET certificate. If you have cleared CTET but not Bihar TET, you are already eligible for Bihar primary/upper primary teacher recruitment through BPSC TRE. Clearing both CTET and Bihar TET gives you eligibility for both central government (KVS, NVS) and Bihar state government teaching posts.
Bihar TET (BTET) is not conducted on a fixed annual schedule - it is announced based on the state government's requirements for teacher recruitment. There have been significant gaps between BTET cycles. There is no maximum attempt limit for Bihar TET - candidates can appear as many times as they remain within the eligible age limit. Since BTET certificates are now lifetime valid, clearing BTET in any cycle remains usable permanently for future BPSC TRE applications. Bihar STET was conducted in October-November 2025 (result released January 5, 2026). Monitor bsebstet.org and biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in for upcoming BTET and STET notifications. Given the gap between cycles, treat each available cycle seriously rather than assuming another opportunity will come soon.
BPSC TRE (Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Examination) is the actual teacher recruitment exam that results in government teaching job appointments in Bihar. It is conducted by BPSC (not BSEB) and is a competitive merit-based examination where candidates are ranked and appointed based on performance. BPSC TRE covers all levels - Primary (Classes 1-5), Upper Primary (Classes 6-8), Secondary (Classes 9-10) and Senior Secondary (Classes 11-12) - in separate papers. The exam pattern covers Subject Knowledge (the teaching subject), General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and other components. A valid TET or STET certificate is a prerequisite - without it, you cannot apply for BPSC TRE. BPSC TRE 4.0 recently announced 46,882 vacancies, making it one of Bihar's largest teacher recruitment drives. The TET/STET is Pass/Fail eligibility; BPSC TRE is the competitive merit-based exam that determines who actually gets appointed.
