2 Write 0.725 in lowest form.

3 What fraction of an hour is 12 minutes?

1 hour= 60 mins, therefore

12/60 = 1/5

Ans. Breadth of the hall= b meters

Length of the hall= (2b-3) metres

6 Find the cost of fencing a rectangular park of length 35 m and breadth 18 m at the rate of Rs 20 per meter.

Ans. per meter.

Perimeter= 2(l+b)

=2(35+18)=106 m

Cost of fencing at the rate of Rs 20 per meter = 20×106= Rs2120

7 Draw a line segment MN of length 6.3 cm and find its axis of symmetry. 2

14 Do the ratio 15cm to 90 cm and 24 seconds to 3 minutes form a proportion?

15: 90 :: 24: 3×60

15 Draw a line segment MN of length 5.5 cm. Construct a line segment PQ of the same length as of MN.

With the help of ruler and compass drawing a copy of the same line segment.

16 The length and breadth of a door are 30 m and 20 m, respectively. Find the cost of polishing the door at a rate of Rs.2 per square metre.

Area of the door= length × breadth

=30 × 20 =600 square meters

Cost of polishing at a rate of Rs.2 per square metre.=Rs.2 × 600

= Rs. 1200

17 Meenu runs around a square park of side 40 m and Ravi runs around a rectangular park of length 25 m and breadth 16 m.Who covers less distance and by how much ?

Distance covered by Meenu=4 × side=4×40=160 m

Distance covered by Ravi=2(l+b)= 2(25+16)

=82 m

Hence, Ravi covers less distance and by (160-82)m= 78m

20 Harish travelled 110 km 267 m by bus, 15 km 32 m by rickshaw and the rest of his journey was on foot. If he travelled 142 km 356 m in total, how much did he travel on foot?

Total distance travelled by Harish= 142.356 km

Distance travelled by bus= 110.267 km

Distance travelled by rickshaw= 15.32 km

Distance travelled on foot = 142.356-(110.267+15.32)

=17.057 km or 17 km 57 m

26 Six square flower beds each of side 1m are dug on a piece of land 6m long and 5m wide. What is the area of the remaining portion of the land?

Area of 1 square flower bed= 1 × 1= 1 sq. m

Area of 6 square flower beds= 1 × 6= 6 sq. m

Area of the remaining portion of land= 30- 6= 24 sq. m

Number of tiles =Area of entire floor/area of one tile= 12/0.25=48 tiles

30 A motor bike travels 220km in 5 L of petrol.

a) How much distance will it cover in 15 L.

b) How much petrol is required to cover 440km.

a) distance covered in 1 l= 220/5= 44 km

distance covered in 15 l= 15 × 44 660 km

b) In 5l motor bike travels=220km

Petrol required to cover 440 km= 10l

31 A bike “ A” covers a distance of 45 km in 5 liters of petrol another bike “B” covers a distance of 84 km in 7 liters of petrol. Which bike we should purchase and Why ?

Bike A covers 45 km in 5 l

In 1 l distance covered= 45/5 =9 km

Bike B covers 84 km in 7 l

In 1 l distance covered= 84/7 =12 km

Since bike B is covering more distance in 1 l petrol , therefore we should buy bike B.
