Thakurda winks at Madhab Datta to keep their secret. Amal asks the holy man where he went this time. He replies, "Curlew Island." Amal claps his hands and reminds the holy man that he promised to take him along next time he is healthy. The holy man agrees and says he will teach Amal spells that will let him travel anywhere. Madhab Datta interrupts them, telling them to stop their silly talk.
Amal eagerly asks about Curlew Island. Thakurda, the holy man, tells him it's an amazing island full of birds, with no people, by the sea. Beautiful mountains and sky make the place even prettier. A stream flows like sparkling diamonds. Amal wishes he could be a bird there. Then the holy man says Amal would have trouble if he became a curd seller when he grew up because no birds would buy his curd, and he would face losses. Madhab Dutta again stops their "nonsense" talk. Amal asks his uncle if the curd seller has come and gone. Madhab Datta says the curd seller left a pot of curd for Amal and went to his village Kalmipara to hire a flute player for his niece's wedding.
Amal imagines he will receive a letter from the King inviting him to be a postman. The village headman makes fun of him, saying the Royal Doctor will come to see him. Towards the end of the play, a doctor actually comes to visit him.
