अपनी रियासत के 363 लोगों की जाने जाने पर वे बहुत दुखी हुए। उन्होंने न केवल उस क्षेत्र में वृक्षे काट गिराने पर प्रतिबन्ध ही लगाया बल्कि मरने वालों को शहीद भी घोषित किया। उन्होंने एक शाही फरमान भी जारी कर दिया कि –
- बिश्नोई गाँवों में हरे वृक्षों को नहीं काटा जायेगा।
- दोषियों को दण्डित किया जायेगा और उनके विरुद्ध कानूनी कार्यवाही की जायेगी।
- शाही परिवार के सदस्य भी वहाँ जानवरों का शिकार नहीं करेंगे।
ऐसा अद्वितीय बलिदान था अमृता देवी का जिसने अपना जीवन देकर भी प्रकृति से प्रेम किया।
