Question 1. स्थलाकृतिक पत्रक क्या होते हैं? इनमें रूढ़ चिन्हों का क्या महत्त्व है?
Answer: बड़े पैमाने पर बने ऐसे नक्शे जो ज़मीन के सही नाप-जोख (सर्वे) से बनते हैं, उन्हें स्थलाकृतिक मानचित्र या पत्रक कहते हैं। इन नक्शों में ज़मीन पर मौजूद कई चीज़ें जैसे मंदिर, रेलवे स्टेशन, बस स्टैंड, अस्पताल, किले, डाक बंगले, परिवहन और संचार के साधन दिखाने के लिए कुछ खास निशान (सिंबल) इस्तेमाल होते हैं। इन्हीं निशानों को रूढ़ चिन्ह कहते हैं। ये निशान नक्शे पर जानकारी को समझना बहुत आसान बना देते हैं और इन्हीं निशानों से हमें किसी जगह की तुरंत जानकारी मिलती है। इन पत्रकों का उपयोग योजना बनाने और विकास कार्यों में भी होता है।

Answer: भारतीय सर्वेक्षण विभाग स्थलाकृतिक पत्रकों को 6 मुख्य हिस्सों में बांटता है। इनमें से एक हिस्सा 'भारत और पड़ोसी देशों की श्रृंखला' कहलाता है। इसमें भारत और आसपास के देशों के नक्शे 1:1,000,000 (1 मिलियन) के पैमाने पर बने होते हैं। इस श्रृंखला का हर नक्शा 4 डिग्री अक्षांश और 4 डिग्री देशांतर की जगह को दिखाता है। यह श्रृंखला 4 डिग्री दक्षिणी अक्षांश से 40 डिग्री उत्तरी अक्षांश और 44 डिग्री पूर्वी देशांतर से 104 डिग्री पूर्वी देशांतर तक के पूरे इलाके को कवर करती है। इसमें भारत के साथ-साथ नेपाल, श्रीलंका, भूटान, बांग्लादेश, म्यांमार, थाईलैंड, कंबोडिया, वियतनाम और दक्षिणी रूस जैसे देश भी शामिल हैं। इस पूरे क्षेत्र को 4°x4° के 106 छोटे-छोटे हिस्सों में बांटा गया है। हर हिस्से को 1 से 106 तक एक संख्या दी गई है, जिसे निर्देशक संख्या कहते हैं। ये मानचित्र विभिन्न भौगोलिक अध्ययनों और सैन्य उद्देश्यों के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण थे। हालांकि, अब भारतीय सर्वेक्षण विभाग ने इस श्रृंखला के नक्शे छापना बंद कर दिया है।
