A troubled mother took her daughter to see Gandhiji. The girl had been eating too many sweets and her mother wanted Gandhiji to speak to her. After he heard the request, Gandhiji paused in silence. Then he said, "Bring the girl back to me in three weeks and I will speak to her then." When three weeks had passed, the mother returned with her daughter. Gandhiji spoke to the girl and advised ther to give up eating sweets.
The grateful mother thanked Gandhiji, but she was also puzzled. "Why," she asked him, "did you not speak to my daughter when we first came to you?" Gandhiji replied, "Three weeksa go I was eating too many sweets myself!"
