Articles are a special group of adjectives. Adjectives describe nouns and pronouns.
 
The three articles are:
• A
• An and
• The
 
Use “A” before singular nouns and adjectives that begin with a consonant sound.
 
Example: a boy, a car, a big cat, a beautiful pencil, etc…
 
- A student wears uniform.
- A green frog is sitting by the river side.
 
Use “An” before singular nouns and adjectives that begin with a vowel sound.
 
Example: an orange, an oval glass, an intelligent animal, etc…
 
- An apple is a sweet fruit.
- An old umbrella is being sold.
- An ostrich is a wild animal.
 
Use “The” before singular and plural nouns.
 
Example: the smart student, the cake, the bicycle, etc…

- The man is staring at me.

- The long bar is planted on the field.

- The people are chatting on some ideas.

Adjectives that compare
 
Adjectives can be used to compare two or more people, places or things.
Add “-er” to most short adjectives to compare two people, places, or things.
Add “-est” to most short adjectives to compare more than two people, places, or things.
If an adjective ends with a consonant and “y”, change “y” to “i” and add “-er” or “-est”.

- big – bigger, biggest
- small – smaller – smallest
- new – newer – newest
- sunny – sunnier – sunniest
- pretty – prettier – prettiest
 
Example 2:
 
- The barn is sunnier than the horse stable.
- Abel is longer than Amanuel.
 
Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean of all in the world.
Some adjectives use special forms to compare.
 
Example 1:
bad – worse – worst
good – better – best
 
Example 2:
 
- My English exam result is better than my math exam result.
- Eden has the best voice in her class.
