Gseb Std 10 Hindi Vyakaran Ras-Vivechan (1st Language)

'वाक्यं रसात्मक काव्यं' means a poetic sentence is poetry. Emotions give joy to the reader, listener, or viewer. Acharya Bharat Muni gave the rule for emotions to appear –

Vibhavanubhav Vyabhichari Sanyogat Ras Nishpatti: This means that emotions arise (are expressed) from the joining of Vibhav, Anubhav, and Vyabhichari (Sanchari) Bhavs.

Emotions are thought to be the soul of poetry. The parts (elements) of emotions are considered to be four.

(1) स्थायी भाव : Permanent emotions are inborn. They always stay in a person's mind. They become active and appear when a reason is present. Initially, the number of emotions was thought to be nine, and there were nine permanent emotions accordingly. Based on Sur's poetry, the acceptance of parental affection brought a new emotion called Vatsalya into being. Also, after recognizing the importance of devotion in the poetry of Tulsidas, Surdas, and Meera, another emotion called 'Bhakti Ras' was accepted. Today, the number of emotions has grown from nine to eleven. Their permanent emotions are as follows:

Vibhav means the person, thing, or circumstances that usually awaken or intensify dormant permanent emotions. Vibhav has two types –

The person or thing on whom permanent emotions like love arise in the mind is called Alamban Vibhav. It also has two types –

1. Shelter and
2. Subject. The one in whose mind these feelings arise is called Shelter. In humorous emotions, the joker who performs actions, wears costumes, and makes physical movements is himself the Alamban Vibhav. His actions are their subject. His movements are Uddipan Vibhav.

(ख) उद्दीपन विभाव : Those who stimulate the feelings awakened by Alamban are called Uddipan Vibhav. The joker's 'strange acts' and unusual costume are Uddipan Vibhav. In romantic emotions, moonlight, fragrance, and similar things are Uddipan Vibhav.

(3) अनुभाव : The external actions of the source when permanent feelings are awakened are called Anubhav. Seeing the joker and laughing, being surprised, clapping, etc., are examples. Anubhav are of two kinds – Satvik (unintentional) and Kayik (intentional).

(4) संचारी भाव : The mental feelings that appear and then vanish along with permanent emotions are called Sanchari Bhav. These emotional changes arise and disappear like water bubbles. Every emotion has a fixed permanent emotion, but one Sanchari Bhav can exist in many emotions. Their number is considered to be 33.

Ras-Avayavon Ka Udaharan

Read these lines by Maithilisharan Gupt –

Let's look at a short introduction to the nine recognized emotions –

(1) श्रृंगार रस : The permanent emotion of Shringar Ras is – love. Hero and heroine are the basis. Moonlight night, Holi festival, lightning, rain, etc., are stimulators. Along with these, Sanchari Bhavs are present. Anxiety, shyness, eagerness, and fear are Anubhav. These are parts of the union of Shringar. Shringar Ras has two types – (1) Samyog Shringar (Union), (2) Viyog Shringar (Separation).

In Viyog Shringar too, the hero and heroine are the basis. The cuckoo's call, the papeeha's cry, the humming of bees, etc., are stimulators. Sadness and delusion are Sanchari Bhavs. See one example of each – Samyog Shringar :

Viyog Shringar :

Veerras:

Veerras is attained through the support of Vibhav, Anubhav, and Sanchari Bhav due to extreme enthusiasm. It is mainly found in four areas of life, and based on these, Veerras is divided into four categories - such as – Yuddhaveer (warrior), Daanveer (philanthropist), Dayaveer (compassionate), and Dharmveer (righteous).

See examples –

(i) युद्धवीर :

For example –

4. Karun Ras :

'Sorrow' as a permanent emotion, when combined with Vibhav, Anubhav, and Sanchari Bhavs, results in Karun Ras. The sadness caused by the loss of a dear or desired object is called 'shok' (grief).
