अबुल फजल के पिता मुबारक आगरे के पास रहते थे। इनका जन्म सन् 1551 ई० में हुआ था। ये फारसी और संस्कृत के अच्छे विद्वान थे। इन्होंने फारसी में लिखी हुई उस पुस्तक को पूरा किया जो आधी जल गई थी। पूरा करने की विशेषता यह थी कि विचारों में परिवर्तन नहीं हुआ। चौबीस वर्ष की अवस्था में इनकी भेंट अकबर से हुई। वह इनकी विद्वता से इतना प्रभावित हुआ कि इनको अपने दरबार में रख लिया। एक बार जहाँगीर ने अकबर के विरुद्ध विद्रोह कर दिया। अकबर ने इनको दक्षिण से बुलवाया। दक्षिण से आते समय जहाँगीर ने शत्रुतावश इनको मरवा दिया । अबुल फजल का चरित्र बहुत ऊँचा था। ये कभी किसी के साथ शत्रुता का व्यवहार नहीं करते थे । शिक्षा - हमें जाति-पाँति और धर्म के भेद-भाव को भुलाकर सबके साथ प्रेम का व्यवहार करना चाहिए।
