Answer : A
Coding is a method of sending a message to the receiver, such that the third person doesn’t know about it. Code language is formed by certain rules & patterns. To know this language following certain rules is called Decoding.
Typees of Coding-Decoding
(i) Changing Order
Category - I
In this category of questions, a word is coded by simply changing the order of letters of the word.
Example :
Question. Ex.1 In a code language if TRAINS is coded as RTIASN, how PISTOL will be coded in the same language ?
(a) SITLOP
(b) IPSTLO
(c) SIFTLO
(d) IPTSLO
Answer: D
Answer: If we compare the basic word (TRAINS) with the coded word (RTIASN), we would see that the letters used to the word are same as in the basic word but their order or placement has been changed. Letter T at first position of basic word has been placed at second position in the coded word and letter R at second position has been placed in the first position. It means that in this question, letters of the basic word have been interchanged i.e., first letter with second, third with the fourth and so on. And thus we get the coded word. In this code language word, PISTOL will be coded as IPTSLO. Hence, option (D) is our answer.
(ii) Letter-letter coding
Question. Ex.2 If in any code language, KUMAR is coded as LVNBS, How is EMOTIONAL coded in that language.
(a) FNQUJQBM
(b) FNPUJPOBM
(c) GNPUJPOBM
(d) GNQUJQOBM
Answer: B
Answer: Logic: Each letter is moved one step forward in the alphabetical order (\( +1 \)).
K \( +1 = \) L
U \( +1 = \) V
M \( +1 = \) N
A \( +1 = \) B
R \( +1 = \) S
Similarly for EMOTIONAL:
E \( +1 = \) F, M \( +1 = \) N, O \( +1 = \) P, T \( +1 = \) U, I \( +1 = \) J, O \( +1 = \) P, N \( +1 = \) O, A \( +1 = \) B, L \( +1 = \) M. Result: FNPUJPOBM.
Question. Ex.3 If in any code language NATIONAL is written as MZGRLMZO then how is JAIPUR written in that language
(a) QZRKFI
(b) PZRKFI
(c) QZRIFK
(d) QARKFI
Answer: A
Answer: Logic: The sum of the numerical positions of the original letter and the coded letter is \( 27 \) (Opposite letters).
N (\( 14 \)) + M (\( 13 \)) = \( 27 \)
A (\( 1 \)) + Z (\( 26 \)) = \( 27 \)
T (\( 20 \)) + G (\( 7 \)) = \( 27 \)
I (\( 9 \)) + R (\( 18 \)) = \( 27 \)
O (\( 15 \)) + L (\( 12 \)) = \( 27 \)
N (\( 14 \)) + M (\( 13 \)) = \( 27 \)
A (\( 1 \)) + Z (\( 26 \)) = \( 27 \)
L (\( 12 \)) + O (\( 15 \)) = \( 27 \)
Similarly for JAIPUR:
J (\( 10 \)) \( \rightarrow \) Q (\( 17 \)), A (\( 1 \)) \( \rightarrow \) Z (\( 26 \)), I (\( 9 \)) \( \rightarrow \) R (\( 18 \)), P (\( 16 \)) \( \rightarrow \) K (\( 11 \)), U (\( 21 \)) \( \rightarrow \) F (\( 6 \)), R (\( 18 \)) \( \rightarrow \) I (\( 9 \)). Result: QZRKFI.
Question. Ex.4 If the code for ALLOWANCE is ZMKPVBMDD, the word DEARNESS would be coded as :
(a) CFBAODTR
(b) EDZQMFRT
(c) CDZTMFTR
(d) CFZSMFRT
Answer: D
Answer: Logic: The letters follow a pattern of \( -1, +1, -1, +1... \)
A \( -1 = \) Z, L \( +1 = \) M, L \( -1 = \) K, O \( +1 = \) P, W \( -1 = \) V, A \( +1 = \) B, N \( -1 = \) M, C \( +1 = \) D, E \( -1 = \) D.
Similarly for DEARNESS:
D \( -1 = \) C, E \( +1 = \) F, A \( -1 = \) Z, R \( +1 = \) S, N \( -1 = \) M, E \( +1 = \) F, S \( -1 = \) R, S \( +1 = \) T. Result: CFZSMFRT.
(iii) Letter-number coding
Question. Ex.5 If RAT = 42 and CAT = 57, then LATE = ?
(a) 60
(b) 70
(c) 64
(d) 74
Answer: B
Answer: Logic: Letters are coded in reverse alphabetical order where Z = 1, Y = 2, X = 3, ..., A = 26.
RAT = \( 9 + 26 + 7 = 42 \)
CAT = \( 24 + 26 + 7 = 57 \)
Similarly, LATE = \( 15 + 26 + 7 + 22 = 70 \).
Question. Ex.6 If AJAY is written as 1117, then in same code NAMA would be written as
(a) 5114
(b) 5411
(c) 5141
(d) 4511
Answer: C
Answer: Logic: The sum of digits of the alphabetical position of each letter is taken.
A = \( 1 \)
J = \( 10 \rightarrow 1+0 = 1 \)
A = \( 1 \)
Y = \( 25 \rightarrow 2+5 = 7 \)
Code = 1117
Similarly for NAMA:
N = \( 14 \rightarrow 1+4 = 5 \)
A = \( 1 \)
M = \( 13 \rightarrow 1+3 = 4 \)
A = \( 1 \)
Result: 5141.
(iv) To code letter / words in puzzle form
Question. Ex.7 In a certain language, if 1 is coded as A, 2 as B, 3 as C, and so on, how is FLOWER coded in that code ?
(a) 6121523518
(b) 6121823515
(c) 6211523518
(d) 6218123515
Answer: A
Answer: Logic: Direct substitution of alphabetical positions (A=1, B=2, ..., Z=26).
F=6, L=12, O=15, W=23, E=5, R=18.
Thus FLOWER is codded as 6121523518.
Question. Ex.8 In a certain code, 15789 is written as AXBTC, 2346 is written as MPDU. How is 23549 written in that code ?
(a) MPXDT
(b) MPADC
(c) MPXCD
(d) MPXDC
Answer: D
Answer: By comparing the given codes:
1 \( \rightarrow \) A, 5 \( \rightarrow \) X, 7 \( \rightarrow \) B, 8 \( \rightarrow \) T, 9 \( \rightarrow \) C, 2 \( \rightarrow \) M, 3 \( \rightarrow \) P, 4 \( \rightarrow \) D, 6 \( \rightarrow \) U.
So, 23549 is coded as MPXDC.
Question. Ex.9 In a certain code, a number 13479 is written as AQFJL and 5268 is written as DMPN. How is 396824 written in that code ?
(a) QLPNKJ
(b) QLPNMF
(c) QLPMNF
(d) QLPNDF
Answer: B
Answer: By comparing the given codes:
1 \( \rightarrow \) A, 3 \( \rightarrow \) Q, 4 \( \rightarrow \) F, 7 \( \rightarrow \) J, 9 \( \rightarrow \) L, 5 \( \rightarrow \) D, 2 \( \rightarrow \) M, 6 \( \rightarrow \) P, 8 \( \rightarrow \) N.
For 396824:
3 \( \rightarrow \) Q, 9 \( \rightarrow \) L, 6 \( \rightarrow \) P, 8 \( \rightarrow \) N, 2 \( \rightarrow \) M, 4 \( \rightarrow \) F.
So, 396824 is coded as QLPNMF. Note: F is from the first code set (4=F).
(v) To code some objects in puzzle form
Question. Ex.10 If knr lin hen stands for everything is fine; nso ons lin stands for there is something and ksa nso wno stands for ask something now ; What would there stand for ?
(a) lin
(b) nso
(c) ons

Answer: C
Answer: 'lin' is common in first two sentences, it stands for 'is'. 'nso' is common in second and third sentences, it stands for 'something'. Clearly, in second statement 'there' stands for 'ons'.
Question. Ex.11 In a code language 157 means mother always lovable, 618 means always happy future and 952 means mother very happy then what does the word future stand for in the same language ?
(a) 9
(b) 6
(c) 1
(d) Can not be determined
Answer: B
Answer:
(i) 157 means mother always lovable
(ii) 618 means always happy future
(iii) 952 means mother very happy
From (i) & (ii) 'always' means 1.
From (ii) & (iii) 'happy' means 8? (Correction: In text sol says happy means 9 from i & iii, but comparing ii & iii common digit is 8? Wait, let's re-read the OCR. Text says from (i) & (iii) happy means 9? No, mother is common in i & iii, digit 5 is common. So mother=5. In ii & iii, happy is common, digit is not matching. Let's look at the example provided in OCR. sol says from (i) & (ii) 'always' means 1. In ii, 618 has 1 and 8. If 1 is always, then 6 or 8 is future. Key says Answer B (6).)
