NCERT Textbooks trapped in 1300 factual errors

Recently textbooks published by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) have been found with 1300 factual errors during the inspection of school textbooks. As it is the responsibility to correct this fault nearly “900 teachers have been sent over 2500 suggestions for the correction in textbooks” Which has been declared by Human Resource Development minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar. This fault is found due to the all NCERT books review which must be done by NCERT as the books were written over a decade ago and needed to be updated. These books were published in 2007 by National Curriculum Framework (NCF), back in 2005.

"This is not a revision, but a review. Many teachers sent their suggestions. NCERT received 2,500 suggestions and of those 1,300 are found to be correct," said the HRD minister

According to the statement above the council were getting suggestions from school teachers for factual errors and request for necessary update.

"Also, a new portal has been created which will help schools order the books and it will ensure timely supply," said Javadekar. Javadekar also said that the process of updating the books is expected to be done before the start of next academic session by NCERT.

Back in 2005, Yashpal was the chairmen of the NCF. There have been 4 NCFs brought by NCERT till now which are 1997, 1988, 2000 and 2005. According to MHRD, NCERT has printed and supplied about 4.5 crore copies of textbooks this is and the council is expecting the order to reach 6 crore copies for the next year.
