NCERT books can be ordered online now

Currently, most of the schools have tie ups with vendors for obtaining the NCERT books. The system involves obtaining of books from the NCERT by vendors and then those are supplied to schools through the vendor. This route cause delays most of the time in receiving the books. The reasons could be anything such as additional schools opened, schools shifting to these books and scare supply available as compared to the demand.

One of the principals of a city school said that they had faced issues in procuring the Sanskrit and history books for class IX and X for this academic year of 2017-18.She also added that no clear picture was available for them about the demand and the supply of books. Most of the schools who tied up with the vendors find difficulty in procuring books due to short supply for few of the books.

But now situation may change as NCERT and the Ministry of Human Resource Development have been approached to aid this procurement. There is an online portal now where the school can put intent to procure the books required.

CBSE sent a circular asking affiliated schools to register and place a demand well in advance for the coming academic year so that the books can be supplied to all impanelled vendors by NCERT in time.

Nearly 80 member schools have been already reached out and details of the number of books required have been collected by CBSE Schools Management Association (CMSA).

“This online portal will reduce the delay and schools don’t need to approach different vendors”, said P. Ashok Shankar, CSMA secretary

The majority of schools prefer the NCERT textbooks for classes IX-XII. But schools can use private publishers’ books for middle school and lower classes.
