As you are aware, the Central CBSE Board of Secondary Education offers 31 languages besides Hindi and English at Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. Out of these 11 are foreign languages. German language has already been introduced at the Secondary and Senior Secondary level. The CBSE Board now proposes to introduce German language in the school curriculum for its affiliated schools in class VI from the academic year 2008-09. Initially the language is proposed to be introduced at Class VI and it will be extended to classes VII & VIII in a phased manner in the successive years. The syllabus prepared by the CBSE Board is enclosed in Annexure and also placed on CBSE website. www.cbse.nic.in The textual material will also be made available shortly.
Teacher training is proposed to be provided by the Max Mueller Bhavan in collaboration with the German Embassy to India to orient the practicing teachers to the new syllabus and materials.
Schools which are interested in introducing the teaching of German Language at Class VI from the year 2008-09 may send their willingness to the undersigned. The letter of willingness should reach the undersigned by the 15th of October 2008 to enable the CBSE Board to process the applications further.
