After completing their intermediate, students start wondering about the career prospects which lay in front of them. They wonder which stream would help them in achieving best career in their future.  There are wide ranges of diploma and graduation courses in India which are offered just after completion of Intermediate. A graduation program is an undergraduate Academic degree which is awarded when a person completes the program. It is foundation stone of the career of the students as it is the first academic degree which is accepted for the job consideration.

 Almost every degree has intermediate as the eligibility criteria for applying for the course. There is a different time period for the different graduation programs. Most of them are three year bachelor courses, few of them are four year courses and there few five year bachelor courses. Bachelor degree in India can only be awarded by the institutions and universities recognised by the UGC or

Types of graduation courses in India

1)      Regular or Pass Bachelor Courses – A simple Bachelor Courses or Regular Bachelor Courses are the one which are general and doesn’t need any kind of specialisation in any subject. It is called as full time Bachelor Courses because the students need to attend the classes of the course regularly and follow other academic rules like submission of assignments and reports, compulsory attendance etc. In these kinds of courses there are no necessary specialisations in any subject. You can do any set of subjects with some core or compulsory subjects. Core or compulsory subjects can be different in different institutes and University. In India, the pass degree of Bachelor Courses or Regular Bachelor Courses are awarded in Science, commerce and arts stream which is to pursued in English or any one Indian language. People passing these Bachelor Courses or Regular Bachelor Courses are awarded the degree of Bachelor of commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of science (B.Sc) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A)

2)      Honours Bachelor courses - Honours Bachelor courses are the courses in which there is necessary specialisation in one area of the stream which has to be pursued in third year of the course after completion of core courses in second year. Honours Bachelor courses are regarded of higher academic standard as they require specialisation in the specific area of the stream. It is placed above other simple Bachelor Courses or Regular Bachelor Courses. In general, honour courses are pursued by the enthusiastic students as it needs more dedication and extra studies due to the specialisation. This is the reason why not every student go for an Honours Bachelor course and moreover not every institute offers an Honours Bachelor course and not all institute offer honour courses in all subjects. After completion of the course the student is awarded Bachelor of commerce (Hons.) (Hons. B.Com), Bachelor of science (Hons.)  (Hons. B.Sc) and Bachelor of Arts (Hons.)  (B.A Hons.)

3)      Professional bachelor courses: Professional bachelor courses are the courses in which a student to have an in deep extensive knowledge of the field chosen by him/her. These Professional bachelor courses provide deep education of the stream. These courses demand more dedication and hard work from the students as these are way more difficult course than Regular or Pass Bachelor Courses or Honours Bachelor courses. The course materials of Professional bachelor courses are professional as well as academic. These courses can have different streams like law, medical etc and degree awarded under these programs can vary from B.D.S, B. Ed., L.L.B, M.B.B.S and B.Tech.

4)      Dual Bachelor courses: Dual Bachelor courses are the courses in which the study is conducted for one subject but the degree awarded is equal two degrees regardless of the same time duration of the course. For example L.L.B-L.L.M dual degree (3 yearLLB+2 years LLM) can be completed in just four years.  These type graduation courses were first introduced by the IIT in India. These degrees were constructed to send more and more dedicated students in the field of research.

5)      Distance learning bachelor courses: Distance learning bachelor courses are also known as part time bachelor courses. These courses are the one which pursued through correspondence. Distance Learning bachelor courses are the courses where the lectures and notes or the related material is delivered in Audio- video form or in postal or by internet. In some of the setups of the Distance Learning bachelor courses a student can attend limited number of classes on weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis. There are number of open universities present in India a wide range of Distance learning bachelor courses. These Distance learning bachelor courses are not regarded as standard in many of the job offers.

6)      Associate Bachelor courses  -  Associate Bachelor courses  are the courses in which after the completion of the course the degree is awarded by community college run by any charitable trust, N.G.Os, Missionaries etc. these courses are known as Associate Bachelor courses   because about 40 per cent of the content is from regular bachelor courses.  Although haven said that, in the current scenario the community college structure is still not present in India, IGNOU may be recognised as community college in near future. IGNOU is planning to launch its own community college and offer different Associate Bachelor courses in different streams. Any interested person – school left outs, degree holders and other people who want to learn skills can join these Associate Bachelor courses. Especial emphasis would be on people from the rural India joining these courses.
