CBSE UGC NET: Qualifying criteria for the National Eligibility Test (NET)

UGC released a new notification about qualifying criteria for the National Eligibility Test (NET) that is only 6 per cent of candidates who appeared in the exam will be declared qualified. The NET is conducted for examining the eligibility for the Assistant professors or junior research fellowship and eligibility for the assistant professor both in Indian universities and colleges.

Registration procedure will begin from August 1st of this year and will be concluded on 30th of August.

Notification:

University Grants Commission (UGC) wishes to clarify those earlier qualifying criteria for UGC NET exam involved qualifying top 15 per cent of those candidates in each subject and category. And the candidates, who obtained the minimum required marks in paper I, paper II and paper III according to the category of the candidates.

The orders of the High Court of Kerala, University Grants Commission has revised the procedure and criteria for qualifying candidates. And it has been decided that 6 per cent of the total candidates who appear for the UGC NET examination will be declared qualified.

Qualifying per cent out of appeared candidates in the previous four UGC NET examinations are:

  • June 2015 UGC NET: 4.83 per cent
  • December 2015 UGC NET: 4.96 per cent
  • July 2016 UGC NET: 4.8 per cent
  • January 2017 UGC NET: 3.99 per cent
  • Expected UGC NET in future: 6.00 per cent.

What is UGC NET?

UGC (University Grants Commission) is a statutory organization established by the union Government in 1956. Its main objective is to provide recognition to the universities in India and provide funds to a recognized universities and colleges.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) now conducts exam on behalf of UGC for the post of lecturer. And also for providing the Junior Research fellowship for nationals of India, in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and in research. This exam is conducted in the streams of Arts, Sciences, commerce, humanities etc
