Admissions to NITs likely to be based on JEE-Mains scores

The government is likely to take decision on the admission process of JEE- Mains. As per the new process the admission to the NITs will be only based on marks obtained in the JEE – Mains examinations. The earlier method as per which weightage was given to board examination marks too will be removed. Earlier process used to give 40 percent weightage to board examinations scores and 60 percent weightage to JEE-Mains examinations for admission to NIT examinations.

There were some issues relating to publishing of results by CBSE which led to delayed announcement of results by NITs. This led to frustration and confusion amongst students.

Though government is recommending scrapping of the weightage system but the panel is likely to suggest securing 60 per cent marks or 70 percentile in class XII, whichever is lower, as a criteria for eligibility of a candidate to appear for the examination conducted for admissions to the premier technical institutes.
