CA Foundation Eligibility Criteria

Class 12 Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or other equivalent examination as recognized by the Central Government.
  • The list of recognized boards are given below in this article.

Registration for Course

  • Candidates must register for the CA Foundation course at least 4 months prior to the exam.

Conversion from Old scheme

  • Those candidates registered with BoS under the old scheme can appear in November 2019 session by converting to the new scheme before September 7, 2019.

About CA Foundation

CA foundation course is the entry level test for Chartered Accountancy (CA) course by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Students after passing class 12th or any equivalent exam recognized by Central government can register for this course. CA Foundation test is conducted twice in a year in the month of May and November. After registration candidate will be given 4 months study period for preparation.

CA CPT revised as CA Foundation. CPT (Common Proficiency Test) exam is considered to be much easier than the other- CA intermediate & CA Final and thus decision was taken it replace it with CA foundation. In that matter ICAI president said that they are introducing the subjective pattern in the CA foundation because of the objective pattern in the CA-CPT as it lead to the guesswork from hundreds of candidates and thus many ineligible candidate gets entrance in CA foundation. In order to reduce such vulnerabilities ICAI has introduced CA foundation instead of CPT.

Foundation syllabus

CA Foundation has comprises of 4 papers –

Paper 1: Subjective type-Principles and Practice of Accounting (100 Marks)

  • No negative marking

Paper 2: Subjective type Business Law & Business Correspondence and Reporting (100 Marks)

  • Section A: Business Law (60 Marks)
  • Section B: Business Correspondence and Reporting (40 Marks)
  • No negative marking

Paper 3:  Objective Type-Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 Marks)

  • Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning (60 Marks)
  • Statistics (40 Marks)
  • Negative marking

Paper 4: Objective Type -Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge

  • Business Economics (60 Marks)
  • Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks)
  • Negative marking

Exemptions

Candidate is exempted from appearing for CA Foundation 2020 are-

  • If candidate holds Bachelors or Master degree in commerce with at least 55% or
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in other stream with at least 60%
  • Qualified the intermediate ICSI ( Institute of Company Secretaries of India) or Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI)
