The Special Educators Forum of India (SEFI) has sent two representations to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi, in response to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)’s circular issued to its affiliated schools instructing them to appoint Special Educators as part of Inclusive Education.
The SEFI approached the schools certified by the Rehabilitation Council of India to fill up its many vacancies by appointing Special Educators. The actual execution of the policy is now up to the schools.
The National Convener of SEFI, Kalpgiri Sreenu said that the CBSE has changed its bylaws after sending out the second circular in June this year, and SEFI has made its grievances known to the schools for filling up the vacancies. He said that the Chairman has responded that the job of the Board is done, and the ball is now in the schools’ court.
Out of the 6lakh children with special needs registered in the 2011 census, 61,558 are in primary schools and 6605 in secondary schools.
The Rehabilitation Council of India which was set up to regulate activities related to children with special needs under the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992, has 4000 Special Educators registered with it in Telangana. Out of the 1,134 posts that have been sanctioned, 274 are yet to be filled. Out 98 sanctioned posts in 6 schools for the visually and hearing impaired set up by the Disabled Welfare Department, 38 are still vacant. The schools have 780 children.
