Only NCERT books need to be sold in the CBSE affiliated schools

Recently the Central Board of Secondary Education has informed all its affiliated schools to sell only the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks in the school premises. And it is mandatory for all  'Tuck Shops' inside the schools to strictly say no to all the private publisher books. Apart from textbooks, the truck shops are given permission to sell stationery items including pencils, pens, other items. But the prices on the stationery items should not exceed the MRP value.

NCERT books are only allowed

During the last year, all the schools that are affiliated with the CBSE board are recommended to only use NCERT books for all the classes.

This new rule has been implemented by the board only when it came to notice that the parents are reporting that the schools are pressuring their students to buy textbooks that are published by others.

Keeping all these issues in mind the CBSE board came to the conclusion that NCERT textbooks are more than enough. Since these textbooks are fully knowledged with board examination materials and information for other competitive exams like JEE. So the students, as well as the schools, need not go beyond NCERT textbooks.

What are the views of the schools?

The CBSE affiliated schools are completely against the usage of books published by others.

Ajit Prasad Jain, Senior Principal, Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram, also mentioned that as the nearby NCERT selling counters are based in Bangalore therefore the schools need to wait for six months to get their books. So in order to compensate it, he recommended buying other textbooks that do not change their syllabus suddenly that are prescribed by the CBSE board only.

Complete responsibility to be taken by the NCERT to publish the school textbooks

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is responsible in publishing CBSE affiliated textbooks, which will be implemented from the year 2018. And the CBSE board will take the responsibility of organizing examinations that are affiliated with it.
