The government is planning to launch an online portal In order to make NCERT textbooks available for all. Through this online portal parents can also save a huge amount of money because they don't have to buy the textbooks from private publishers and it cut down the delivery charges imposed by the e-commerce websites who usually sells NCERT textbooks. But an official announcement is yet to come.
This move from the government will not only decrease the textbook shortages but also decrease the price of textbooks. If you purchase a textbook from a private publisher it can cost up to maximum 300 but in fact, the maximum price of NCERT textbooks is Rs.50. It must be noted that 13 crore textbooks are used every year and 3900 crore rupees is made by private publishers if the books are purchased from them.
This initiative by the government which can reduce the practice of purchasing textbooks from private publishers got many good reviews from both parents and students but this plan has received an outrage from the private publishers.
Madras high court had granted interim stay on a CBSE circular on 29 July which made it mandatory for schools to follow NCERT textbooks only. Upon which justice N Kirubakran said “the CBSE board has to be blamed for allowing schools to buy textbooks without any verification of its quality of contents, volume, and design. According to the 2014 circular which enables the CBSE schools to purchase textbooks either from NCERT or from private publishers. The present order without giving more details to it cannot be passed. So there will be an order of interim stay.
