NCERT has again made clear that as per the syllabus and guidelines issued by them, no homework must be given to students upto class 2.
The CBSE schools have already been directed to follow the instructions but the schools are still giving homework to students in order to show that they are making the child study or to display to society about their education standards.
Also clarification came on the number of subjects which is allowed to be taught upto class 3. The students are made to study upto 7 subjects in these classes whereas NCERT has suggested only English, very basic mathematics and mother language to be taught till class 3 using NCERT Books
“The demonising effect of such labelling is devastating on children. Therefore, parents need to be vigilant about these practices, and rather than taking pride of the fact that their wards are studying in a school where these discriminating practices prevail, they need to stand against these to prevent discrimination in the society on the basis of abilities,” the council has said.
NCERT has advised parents to speak to the school authorities regarding this. It has also been advised that at this stage the students must be more involved in outdoor activities and extra-curricular activities instead of reading books which are not even meant for their age group.
