Let’s Understand The Process Of CBSE Rechecking

1. The evaluation process of CBSE is well defined. It is based on a structured marking scheme. The same has been prepared by the experts of subjects teaching in reputed schools affiliated to CBSE. Experienced subjects teachers evaluate the answer sheets. There are more than 2000 evaluation centres located in the country. It is to ensure that the correct marks are entered in the answer scripts following the marking scheme

2. However human error is unavoidable. Experienced subject teachers may make a mistake of transferring marks or summation of marks, even manually entering the marks in the computer system. CBSE has provision of assessing afresh. It rechecks the answer sheets, rechecks the total, number of attached supplementary sheets, and if any answer was left unchecked, it is assessed fresh. Thus there is a lot of transparency in the evaluation

3.  However, the correct picture is not portrayed in some of the news reports in some newspapers. This year 2.47% answer scripts were applied for verification by the students of class XII Examination 2017. While they were 2.31%, 2.09% and 2.53% in the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.  Thus we see that applications for verifications have not increased in number as claimed by some news reports. There was a change in marks in 0.091% of answer sheets and 0.002% cases had changes in marks by 26 or more after the verification process. It becomes crystal clear that there is barely any totalling error as claimed by some media reports.

4. The Examination Committee and The Governing Body of CBSE in June 2016 have done away with the process of re-evaluation due to the following reasons:

  • In more than 99.98% cases, there is no change in marks after re-evaluation
  • there is an option of photocopies and verification of marks which has been notified by CBSE ON 29.05.2017

5. CBSE is a pro-student board. It also boasts of one of the most transparent systems. Thus a lot of precautions are taken in the evaluation of the answer sheets of the students as the final results affect the future prospects of the students.
