How to practice Mathematics

Mathematics is one of the toughest subjects in the Xth and XIIth CBSE Board exams. From the different formulae which need to be memorized, to the many different types of equations which come under the subject, it is one tough nut to crack.

Students give up on Mathematics out of sheer pressure of the number of topics which come under it. Trigonometry, Algebra, Calculus and Geometry are subjects which are not easy to master. It is the understanding of how to solve these problems which is tested in the CBSE exams. This makes it that much more difficult to score.

But mathematics is a subject where Practice will make Perfect. This is not a subject that can be memorized or copied because the CBSE question papers demand that the student show their working on their papers.

Here are some more reasons why we recommend you practice your Math to do well:

Practice Rather Than Memorize – This old adage is very true of Mathematics. The more you practice, the more you will be able to master it. Remembering the different formulae and applying them takes time, and the more number of questions you solve, the more number of times you will apply the formulae. This will make it that much easier rather than sitting down to memorize the formulae.

Practice the Solution – All Math problems in the CBSE board papers require you to show your working of the problem. When you practice, you will be able to learn how to best write out the answers correctly. If you do not practice your Math regularly, you will be slower in the exam halls and fall behind. Reading out the solutions to you during study just doesn’t work when it comes to Math.

In Math, Practice – Mathematics is one subject where the old trick of memorizing the answers just doesn’t work. The subject of Math is one that is of application. You can be sure that the equation your teacher solved in class will definitely not be the one that will come in your papers. Without practicing the equations on different sums, you will not get the hang of knowing which formula goes for which question.

Practice as you go along – If you practice your Math right from your childhood, you will be better able to understand the subject as you go along. The basics of Math are taught in the lower classes, and it becomes more complicated as you graduate to higher standards. If you do not practice the basics of Algebra in you VIIth exams, be sure to know you will not understand the equations that arw taught in the Xth class.

Automation – Practice Math for automating your mind. The more you apply the basics of Math in your practice work, the more your mind will be trained to automatically reach for a formula or equation in your mind during the exams. It is when you reach a long-term Math mastery that you will be able to create a long-term memory of the Math equations without needing to put in much effort.
