How To Improve Vocabulary CBSE board

Improving Vocabualary is the most essential for getting marks in the CBSE Boards. And this can be a tremendous task. But the following ways can easily help you not only to improve your vocabulary but also score good marks.

  1. READ: This is a universal known fact. But reading can also be challenging. Start reading the newspaper headings and maybe the first paragraph. Only read the news which interests you. Read story books, stories keep your interest alive. When you don’t understand a few words, that’s perfectly normal. You should be able to understand the story or what is the writer saying. If that is also difficult, try an easier book. Since we have to improve the language on the whole, read a few sections aloud. You can do this alone or with a friend. If possible record your voice and listen to it. In case you want to improve your speed of reading, hold your book upside down and then read.

 

  1. WRITE: Writing kills have to be polished too. If you are reading newspaper, then pick one topic of your interest and write what you think of it. You can also write daily diary to improve English as laguage. You don’t have to write as a composition. Just write what you feel. You need not get it checked also. You can keep it personal. You will find that with your time your written expression has improved. Then you may start writing small paragraphs of 100 words or so and get it checked.

 

  1. Listen and Learn: the CBSE board has very thoughtfully introduced assessment of speaking and listening. Thus it is very important to prepare for it. Try to watch news in English, movies etc. Start to talk to yourself in English. Thinking in English is also very important. As you keep listening and thinking in this language, you will naturally start talking too. If possible try to talk to people who know English very well.

 

  1. LEARNING NEW WORDS: you will keep coming across new words and you might not be sure about the meaning. Do an exercise on such words. See their meaning in the dictionary and try writing the meaning in your own words. Check out the thesaurus and find out other words similar in meaning. Try to use that word or similar meaning words in a few sentences. If possible try to do one word every day or every alternate day.

  

  1. CBSE SAMPLE PAPERS: Solve all the CBSE guess papers, sample papers, worksheets etc. to give you practice. Solving papers helps you in appearing for the exam and raise your confidence level.
