HC to CBSE: merit ranks may change

The Delhi High Court directed to CBSE to inform students seeking admission for joining in colleges that their position of merit may change after the re-evaluation of class 12 marks.

The high court said, “Admissions effected pursuant to Central Board of Secondary Education examination conducted in March/April 2017 will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition.”

“Students seeking admission as well as colleges need to be kept informed about the process of re-evaluation and the pendency of writ petition. On the request of some students, the re-evaluation is conducted. So the result of merit students may change,” said Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar, Bench of Acting Chief Justice.

And also High court Bench stated that “The Delhi University is responsible to inform the public as well as colleges regarding the position and to inform the students who are seeking the admissions in the colleges.”

The re-evaluation is meaningless if its benefits did not reach the students.

The issue was sought within a day of informing students about the present petition and the outcome, a status report.

In early years, the High Court had allowed re-evaluation of answer sheets of all the students of class 12marks. Benefits should be given to the students while scrutinizing the papers, the board was told. These are the directions came by hearing a petition filed by four students, thereby imposing conditions that the right of applying for scrutiny was limited to 12 subjects only, and up to 10 questions as per subject. And the notice further said that the result is issued only if the marks were increased by five or reduced by one.

So these notices were issued to the Centre, CBSE and The Delhi University on the plea by the court. And High Court sought their replies within 10 days. It has been fixed for further July 26.
