FAQs issued by CBSE for changes in Curriculum

Following are the clarifications issued by CBSE on change in Curriculum

Subsequent to a series of discussions held between NCERT and CBSE, and further directions, certain subjects have been discontinued vide Circular No. 07/2018 dated 09.03.2018. After the uploading of the said circular, the queries received from various schools affiliated to CBSE have been compiled in the form of FAQs. The Principals and Subject Teachers are requested to refer to the following FAQs and feel free to contact in case of any further query:

Which courses in English shall be followed for class XI from the academic session 2018-19?

English Core ( Code number 301) and English Elective( Code number 001), previously known as English Elective NCERT, shall be followed for class XI from the academic session 2018-19.

What will be studied by students who have studied English Communicative for class IX and English Elective CBSE for class XI  in the academic session 2017-18 ?

As clearly stated in the circular, those students  who have studied English Communicative ( Code 101) and English Elective CBSE  in Class IX and class XI respectively in the academic session 2017-18 will continue with the same course for classes X and XII  in the session 2018-19 only

Is there any major change in the Question Paper Design of the courses in English ( class IX and Class XI ) to be followed from the academic session 2018-19?

There is no major change. Only the balancing of marks, previously allotted to the Novels, has been done in the courses. For details, kindly refer to the Question Paper Design given in the curriculum document.

Which textbooks have been prescribed for the subject English in academic session 2018-19 for classes IX and XI and for classes X and XII in the academic session 2019- 20 ?

Will a workbook be included in English Language and Literature ( Code 184)?

A workbook is being prepared by NCERT. Notification about the same will be issued in due course of time.

Will the class IX and Class XI students study Novels as done in the previous sessions?

No. Please refer to the textbooks already given in the answer to the Q.No. 7. Only these textbooks have been prescribed.

How would the teachers be equipped with the pedagogy to be followed for the courses prescribed?

 

CBSE would provide training to teachers through its 13 Centres of Excellence situated in Allahabad, Ajmer, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Kakinada, Patna, Pune, Panchkula, Rae Bareilly, Thiruvananthapuram. The sample papers will also be uploaded very soon.

Will English be entirely theory –based or will it include speaking/listening as subject-enrichment activity?

Assessment of Listening and Speaking skills will continue to be practiced as language-specific Subject-Enrichment activity as detailed in the   Circular No. 05/2017 dated 31.01.2017. The guidelines have been given in the curriculum documents, both Secondary as well as Senior Secondary. During the classroom transaction, the teachers must practice the Listening and Speaking activities given in the prescribed books. They may also add by creating their own activities.
