CBSE plans Class 10, 12 Board exams on the same date in two shifts

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) proposes to hold finals for classes 10 and 12 on same dates but in two shifts. This is a move that will reduce the examination period and gives extra time to check the answer- scripts more thoroughly to teachers.

The board designed a new plan after a meeting with a few principals from top schools and colleges in Delhi and nearby. Central Board of Secondary Education has two panel systems. Those are to suggest ways to improve the systems and also will give the suggestions before a final decision is taken.

The country’s largest school board has more than 18,000 institutions affiliated. The Board usually holds the two exams from 1st of March. That is barring exceptions such as this year’s state assembly elections that are being delayed the test by more than a week. Exams are going to run to 45 days because of an array of the subjects and separation of time- tables for the two classes. Hence, the teachers get the little time to correct the answer-scripts. CBSE came under severe criticism due to errors in correction this year. These errors were criticized after it was reported that those who sent their papers for correction to a 40 per cent rise in their marks.

The plan is to set common dates in two shifts, with class 12 in the morning and class 10 in the afternoon, is close to decrease the overall duration of the finals. At present, exams are not held in the afternoon on any exam day. A pool of school teachers is selected by the CBSE. To check the answer- scripts on time before the results are declared in May. And the numbers of exam days will give evaluators are reduced. More than a million of students wrote the class 12 examinations in this year.

A senior board official told that “by conducting class 10 and 12 exams on same dates by two shifts, can reduce the overall time and can provide time to the evaluators to check the answers without burden.”
