CBSE to Include Arts and Crafts in the Regular Learning Curriculum

The Central Board of Secondary Education has improved the introduction of arts in regular learning methodology for all subjects from class 1 to class 11. The step is being taken to incorporate suggestions from associates, proposed by National Curriculum Framework (NCF) that stated: “we must bring the arts precisely into the field of the curricular”.

All the details regarding the implementation, evaluation and assessment criteria of the new subject will be shared by CBSE later. CBSE also explained why there is a need to change in the current curricular system.

After consulting with the association's board also shared its thoughts with schools, it comes out that the addition of arts will lead to the advancement of learning in classrooms. Students must acquire the skills of innovative thinking, understanding the concept, analyzing information, effective communication, developing curiosity, imagination and problem-solving to follow all disciplines at every stage of life.

The board also says that when art is linked with education, it helps the child to gain all those skills creativity, innovative thinking etc.

NCF also stated that reading arts in all areas of learning gives students the ability to identify themselves. Along with school education, arts education is also more important.

Maybe both the Art education and Art Integrated education are contradictory, but both depend on each other and also give strengths to each other. Art education isn’t only important for developing creativity and admiration of art among students but it is also necessary for introducing art based skills in the students. Before starting to learn Art Integrated, you should know about Art education. In other words, Art education is the root of Art Integrated education. All those things CBSE writes in its letter to schools.

According to CBSE Experiential learning is also based on Art learning. Therefore, Introducing art is a necessary step for students to derive meaning and understanding, directly from the learning experience.

CBSE says that in spite of the new process not only makes the teaching and education system more joyful and interesting, it also brings the interdisciplinary approach in learning. To boost the development of certain life skills such as communication skills, reflection and inquiry skills, un-conditioning of the mind leading to higher confidence levels and strengthen self-confidence, admiration for inventive and creative, both the Art education and Art Integrated education are necessary.
